MASERATI · MASERATI MERAK · Cars
As of 2025 Q4, 61 MASERATI MERAKs remain registered in the UK — one of the rarest cars in Britain on today's roads. Numbers are at their highest recorded level since the model first appeared in our data in 2014 Q3. Unusually, the numbers are actually rising — up 1 (1.7%) over the past year, as imports and barn-finds rejoin the register faster than cars leave it. Tellingly, 49% are declared SORN — kept off the road in garages and barns rather than driven, the signature of a car being looked after rather than used up. In all, the MASERATI MERAK is rarer than 64% of the 2,408 UK car models we track, putting it firmly in 2025's endangered class.

The Maserati Merak (Tipo AM122) is a mid-engined 2+2 sports car produced by Maserati between 1972 and 1983. The Merak was closely related to the Maserati Bora, sharing part of its structure and body panels, but was powered by a 3.0 L V6 in place of the latter's 4.7 L V8. The extra cabin space gained by fitting a smaller and more compact powertrain was used to carve out a second row of seats—suitable for children or very small adults—making the Merak not just a less expensive alternative to the Bora but also a 2+2.
As of 2025 Q4, 61 MASERATI MERAK were still registered in the UK — 31 licensed and on the road, plus 30 declared SORN (off-road). The figures come from official DVLA vehicle licensing data.
