As of 2025 Q4, 1,314 FIAT X1/9s remain registered in the UK — an increasingly uncommon sight on today's roads. Numbers are at their highest recorded level since the model first appeared in our data in 2014 Q3. Unusually, the numbers are actually rising — up 11 (0.8%) over the past year, as imports and barn-finds rejoin the register faster than cars leave it. Tellingly, 75% are declared SORN — kept off the road in garages and barns rather than driven, the signature of a car being looked after rather than used up.
Uncommon — a few thousand still about (1,314).
Rarer than 32% of the 2,408 UK car models we track.
The Fiat X1/9 is an Italian two-seater mid-engined sports car designed by Bertone and manufactured by Fiat from 1972–1982 and subsequently by Gruppo Bertone from 1982–1989. With a transverse engine and gearbox in a mid-mounted, rear-wheel drive configuration, the X1/9 was noted for its balanced handling, retractable headlights, lightweight removable hardtop which could be stowed under the bonnet, front and rear storage compartments — and for being the first Fiat to have been designed from its conception to meet US safety regulations.
